About a year ago, I talked with you by phone and proceeded with your advice, including a study of How To Write a Book Proposal by Michael Larsen. I also wrote five versions of a Query letter and have submitted to more than 150 agents with no success. During our phone call you said you expected I should expect an advance of 20k to 40k.
I am wondering now if there is something I should do differently. If you can give me any direction, it would be appreciated.
Hi Maverick,
I remember you, and I’m glad you’re following through. Re: advances, what I said, or meant to say, was that if an author writing a book in your genre was to get a deal with a major publisher, they could expect something in that range. But most authors who try to get agents aren’t able to. It’s incredibly difficult. But just because you haven’t gotten there yet doesn’t mean you can’t or won’t, if you continue querying. As long as there are agents and/or publishers left to query, there’s hope. Most people give up far too soon.
All my best,
– Mark
