I’m not sure what genre my manuscript falls under. The stories are based on actual events that take place in a fictitious town and hair salon. The names are changed to protect the innocent. The title is Salon Confidential (Stories Too Good to Keep Between Hairstylists and Their Clients).
I thought it might be creative nonfiction, but I’m not sure.

I took my time settling on an agent and when I asked to meet in person he stated he did not have time to meet with someone he “might” represent. How would you describe his attitude?
Should I look elsewhere?

I understand your reaction. Unfortunately, most (successful) agents will say the same thing, unless you’re a celebrity or already an established author. They simply get too many submissions. Doesn’t mean they’re not good people or won’t take care of you if they offer representation.

I am a Southern author, having published three works successfully through Amazon online: GHOST SONG,SCREEN SLEUTHS (a revised pbk edition of my 1992 Garland/Taylor Francis cloth edition) and STILL LIFE WITH CATS: A Cancer Journal written during the Plague Year. I am almost finished with a collection of short stories, TALKING PICTURES, each story inspired by an Edward Hopper painting. Is it possible for you to find me an agent interested in Conservative authors. My experience to date: Christian conservatives need not submit! I hope to get this new book published in cloth and marketed by a publisher, not online. The Hopper Society is already aware of the book’s progress but they will not assist with publication.
