Mr. Malatesta,
Thanks for sending me a message; the last four (4) months have been very hard and as I had a severe sinus infection, and without a PCP (retired) I was given a new one and first appointment next month. I have not ventured out much and although I have lots of writings (all in Copyright Office, D.C.) since the mid-1980s, I have a current project ongoing that is in the final draft. I would eventally like some help in finding the right publisher (Gay male, independent) and as I tend to follow my own ideals and as I have been out since 1972 (I am 72 y.o.) And although I have written much, I was never confident enough to look for an agent and as I was told I am now ‘Too Old’ and I have been independent and doing things, a la, solo writer. Actually, that is my feelings now, and advice is okay, but not certain an agent is needed any longer for me.
Hi Alan,
I hope you’re feeling better, and age shouldn’t be an issue.

What are you thoughts on self-publishing? I have gone that route with one of my novels, but I wonder sometimes if I jumped the gun and should have kept trying for an agent.

I’ve paid my preliminary fee and have completed one half of the questionnaire but unfortunately you’re not geared for Luddites! Cutting and pasting like getting my appendages amputated. Is there any way a prospective client could use email and attachments and facilitate life for those of us whose secretaries kept us as tech morons? I’ve had two novels published but my third not a hat trick!
Hi Suzanne,
If you need to send the manuscript pages and/or synopsis and/or query separately, because you can’t figure out how to copy/paste those, I can deal with that. BUT, you really should Google how to copy/paste because you’re going to have a devil of a time querying agents if you don’t have that down. Best to use me as a reason to figure out, since you’ll want to respond quickly to agent requests, but you can take your sweet time with me!

I have self-published my first book on Amazon (The Blackmail Enigma.) I am ready to attempt to find an agent for my second one. The first one has received good reviews, but not a lot of sales. Do I mention that book in my query letter?
Hi KJ,
Probably not.
