  2. Lenard Zide

Dear ICM Literary Department: I am a writer and composer seeking representation for my completed feature screenplay, WITCH HUNT, a two-hour political musical with sixteen original songs. The script is registered with the U.S. Copyright Office (Case No. 1-5023671309) and has not been widely circulated. The project, set against contemporary American events, blends political drama presented in a rock-opera storytelling format in the spirit of Les Misérables, La La Land and West Side Story. I would welcome the opportunity to submit a logline and/or additional materials at your request.
Thanks in advance for your time,

Are there any literary agents who accept previously published novels?

      Hi Alan,

Yes, you can still get an agent, despite having already published your novels.

It’s can be harder, but it’s doable.

  4. Vicki

Hi Mark. Thanks for your response. I have thoroughly mined Amazon and other stores for fiction books featuring Formula One. The ONLY books, and they are rare, are full-on Romance, and only one of them was recent enough to count. I’m actually surprised given how the sport has exploded in popularity over the past six years or so, attracting younger fans, and a larger and growing female audience.

So am I going to create an immediate red flag if I can’t cite books as comps? “F1 the Movie” was Apple’s first big blockbuster. It has all the elements that are in my book: conflict, high stakes and, yes, romance. It’s a close as I can get with any accuracy. I expected to have a lot of competition, but apparently not.

How do I address this in my query letters? Maybe I’ll get lucky and find an agent who understands the sport.

      Hi Vicki,

Go broader than F1, as needed. Other racing/romance. Car, jet, boat, horse, anything. You can’t force an exact match, but you can always find looser comps based on topic/theme/style, etc. 🙂

      All my best,

      – Mark
