      Hi Randall,

I received your message and I’m happy to help.

There are more than 1,400 agents, so the best thing to do is look in a literary agent directory (like ours, more info below) when you have a specific agent you want to know more about.

Read this also, if you haven’t seen it yet (very important): https://getaliteraryagent.com/how-much-does-a-literary-agent-cost/#alert

I’ve written a 120 pg. novella. Is it worth querying it alone? Or should I add a few stories to it to make a full book – I have 3 that roughly tie in with the novella and make it 180 pgs. total. Do novellas have a shot these days?

      Hi Tom,

I hate to say this, but unless you’re already a published novelist, that’s going to be a tough slog either way. With fiction, literary agents want novels. To the point that I wouldn’t even suggest someone sign up for a coaching call with me for a novella.

If you decide to pitch it anyway, to literary agents, you will likely find these things helpful:

      Hi Denis,

I received your message and I’m happy to help if possible.

First, however, I want to make sure you realize this isn’t a literary agency or a publishing company.

We help book authors get literary agents (400+ since 2011).

  4. Ian Reilly

I’m a newly published author with a small niche press in Australia. As for so many newbie authors I’m doing almost all the promotion myself. My reader feedback has been extremely positive with reader after reader saying they “couldn’t put it down” and asking “when can I read the next book?” My strategy is to generate enough sales of my first book (say 5,000 copies) to get the attention of literary agents and then get a deal with a major publisher for my second and third books (they are a trilogy). My hope is that a major publisher will invest more in book promotion and marketing worldwide. Do you think this strategy has good opportunity for success?

      Hi Ian,

Nice to meet you, and congratulations on getting a publisher. I know it’s a niche press, but still. It’s a real press and you’re able to start connecting with your audience. Re: your plan, yes, it’s a good one. Now that the book is published, literary agents will want to know, when you pitch them later, how many copies you’ve sold. The bigger the number, the more it can help.
