    Hi Mark,

I’m new to creating books and I’ve recently been approached by Balboa Press UK. They’ve been very eager for me to sign up to their services, which has given me pause and made me want to seek some professional advice before committing.

My genuine preference is to go down the traditional publishing route if possible, and I would really value your honest opinion on Balboa Press UK, or any general guidance you might have for someone at this early stage.

Thank you very much for your time I truly appreciate it.

    Kind regards,
    Jade

      Hi Jade,

You’re better off pitching literary agents first. A better option than paying publisher. Any publisher.

Start here, and if you don’t want the first option, please use the other two resources.

I want a list of agents who are accepting submissions, but when I click on “Accepting Submissions” the list includes agents who are not accepting submissions. How do I reach the correct list?

      Hi Robert,

Unless there’s a glitch no one else has told me about yet, which is possible but not likely, the majority of the agents you’re looking at, by far, that say they’re accepting submissions are likely accepting submissions. There are a lot of them and they do change their status, but we’re always doing updates. Also, part of the issue is you were looking around the holidays, when a lot of them close for a bit. You should have an easier time now that the new year is here.

Is it possible to find someone/or a website, where you can speak to a book agent and have them go over your manuscript and query letter and tell you why you are failing to snag anyone’s interest?

Mark, I responded to a well known individual in the literary world offering a class. I sent a sample chapter from my ms., Beenya Soul. The response was: “There’s nothing I can teach you.” It has left me with great doubt. Do you have any advice? Thank you, Toni

      Hi Toni,

I’m happy to help. Not sure how to take that comment from that person though. It means they think your writing is amazing or beyond hope. My hope is that they meant the former. Either way, I can help.
