I have self published 2 volumes in a collection called Sketches of Lee. “A Colored Man in Exeter” and “The Colored Folks Ain’t Gonna Make It.” They are about a Black family, mine, that relocated from Brooklyn to a small NH town in 1957 to escape gang violence and for better educational opportunities. These books are in the DAR’s National Archive as historically significant documents. I am looking for editorial and promotional assistance to deliver the 3rd volume, “Titanium Rose & Butch” And I have another 3 volume collection which is in prepublication called “A Faceoff in Granite” It captures the Elementary, Junior High and High School experience of integrating a NH school district the same day in 1957 as Little Rock Arkansas. More information can be found at Sketchesoflee.com I was recently approached by a producer who would like to take my first 2 books to the screen. I do not have a good feeling about the proposal so I need assistance. I am a quite prolific writer… 🙂
Hi Michael,
Sorry for the delay, and I’m happy to help somehow if possible.

I’ve written a book that is a novel-of-ideas in the tradition of Knut Hamsun, Shusako Endo, Dostoyevsky, and Joseph Conrad.
I have searched and searched but have not found an agent asking for anything like this.

Mark,
Thank you kindly for your response and shedding some light on that matter. I’m not sure how I should post it, but here are three samples (as you requested) of the agencies. However, the agencies listed here are of no interest to me, nor would I ever send them a proposal. These are only examples. Now, before I proceed, I just want to make sure you know the genre of my novel.
Genre: (Commercial Fiction) Action/ Adventure. Sub-Genre: Crime, Thriller, Mystery.
*Some of the genre(s) these agencies accept are listed in my sub-genre, but an agent representing Action/Adventure is what I’m looking for.
Here are the agencies:
Arthouse Literary Agency
arthouselit.com
Margaret McBride Literary Agency
mcbrideliterary.com
Triada U.S. Literary Agency
triadaus.com
Thank you, Mark, for taking time to look into this. I appreciate the work you do and the help that you give. If there’s any information that I failed to list in order to help with your investigation, please let me know.
Best Regards
Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for your patience. After reviewing all three sites, I have a couple things that might help you. First, just because you don’t see an exact genre listed on a site doesn’t mean the agent or agency isn’t interested in it. Agents who say they do commercial fiction, speculative fiction, etc. might be interested in your work. Also, if you read the bio for the first agent that appears on the Triada site, for example, you’ll see a mention of the Reacher novels. The other two agencies look less likely, but there is language in one or more bios on each of those sites that suggests someone there might be interested as well. If in doubt, there’s no harm in querying the agent. You can also cross reference more than one agent directory, but, as you know or might imagine, it can start to get very time intensive.
