I’m looking for a literary agent for my new book. In the past I received phone calls from men who seemed fraudulent, wanting my book information. I would prefer to be contacted by email.
My question is, do you work with books in the 24,000 word range, or better known as a novella? My book is regarding my encounters and experiences as a security officer. I already self-published my book on Amazon and am considering taking it down, if I can find a legitimate literary agent. I also submitted my book to be copyrighted, by the Library of Congress or Copyright agency.
Hi Kristie,
Too few literary agents represent novellas, unfortunately, so I don’t try to help authors of those.
But if you want/need help with anything else, you can post here at https://getaliteraryagent.com/ask-a-literary-agent/.
I’ll do what I can to point you in the right direction.

A big thank you Mark. You give me the confidence I need. I am enclosing my CV where the last pages show my lecture history so you can see who gets info about you.

My literary agent passed away several years ago so like many others I am looking for a new one. My query letter might be somewhat different because of the following.
I have finished a historical novel. I heard that one of my favorite publishers, an imprint of a large traditional publishing group, which used to only publish nonfiction was now taking fiction. Wanting to make sure that the publishing house in question was indeed taking fiction I phoned the company. I was only able to leave a voice mail giving my name and phone number. Weeks went by and I heard nothing. This past week there was a voice mail on my cell phone that I should phone them. Then my phone rang and the woman told me that she was the assistant of the editor in chief of the company I had phoned and that they do want to see my manuscript but it would have to be through an agent.
My question is should I mention this, obviously more briefly, in my query letter to an agent?
Hi Edith,
Yes, you should absolutely mention that in your query, and it should be the first thing you mention in your query.

Hello Mark,
Thank you for answering my earlier question. I have another question that isn’t addressed on your site. Do you think it is beneficial purchase any sort of book software or programs that help organize and format a book project.
I am using ‘Word’ and sending out excerpts when I query agents, but I wonder if there is a better / more professional way.
Thank you in advance for any and all insight in this matter.
Sincerely,
Jennie
Hi Jennie,
