If I am writing a novel and parts of it are published (in literary magazines and/or an indie press chapbook) will that make an agent less likely to want to represent me or sell the book? I’m writing a novel-in stories and I’ve had parts published and some have won awards. I thought that was a good thing? Is it?

That’s great, and more than likely a good thing. Literary agents and publishers will like that, most likely, but they might ask how much of the book has been published that way. It’s not likely enough has been published that it would create a problem.
