Some literary agents offer paid coaching, consulting, and/or editing services, but it’s best to query agents that don’t charge any type of fee.

Hi Mark I’ll get right to the point. If after reading an author’s query letter/ book synopsis/ first chapter, you find it’s c_ _ p and has no future, will you be sincere enough to let a person know or will you keep the $297 and go for a pretend ride? I think we all want to know. Just keeping it real.
Hi Robert,
I tell people what I see. It’s always some good and some not so good. This industry is hard. I also can’t say with certainly who will make it and who won’t. No one can. Based on what I can see, if I believe or know someone is very far from ready to query agents, I’ll tell them that, and I’ll suggest steps to help them get closer to being ready. I also spend time prepping for intro calls, so I don’t have an option for someone to bail on the call if they hear some challenging things during the call. The idea is that whomever does a call should be committed to their writing enough to at least complete the call and get what they can out of it. If you’re unsure, consider sharing your work with other people you trust to get their opinion re: whether you have a real shot. That way you can decide to do the call with me, or not, with greater clarity and less concern re: how the call might go. I’m not a hard sell person. If/when it feels right to you, I’ll do my best to help you improve your position.

In 2007 I self published a book called Revenge of the Anasasi through Publish America which went nowhere. There were no programs to help with marketing and few books were sold. Since then I think this publisher is no longer in business and since I believe it was a good book I would like to submit it again through your company. I am also trying to reach an agent on other thriller novels I have written in the 90s and although retired now, I owned an Adv agency which produced quality graphics and copy for my accounts. Perhaps you might be able to provide some direction in my efforts. Thank-you
