In searching for the proper genre of my book dealing with one’s ability to comprehend the often confusing and conflicting verses of the Old Testament, I find no genre under “Atheism” or “Agnosticism.” Genres such as “Religion,” “Spirituality,’ and, of course, “Judiasm,” and “Christianity” are best left to agents and agencies that support such disciplines. Am I up that proverbial creek?
Hi Craig,
Not necessarily, but it will be harder to pinpoint which agents might be interested. You might need to query General Nonfiction agents, and, of course, query those interested in the categories you cited, though, as you know, many of those won’t be looking for that type of book.

Is Poetry considered as NON_FICTION? Do LITERARY AGENTS represent Poets?
Hi Phil,
Poetry isn’t really fiction or nonfiction, according to most people, but its own genre…and yes, literary agent represent poetry, but very few do so, and most of them only want poetry from award-winning poets who are well published. If you do a Google search such as “literary agents who represent poetry” you’ll likely find someone(s) with a list of those agents online.
